Nigerians which are well-known

There are many Nigerians which are well-known outside the country borders. Here is a list of celebrities which make us proud about Nigeria. All of them are of Igbo origin.

1.    Chiwetel Ejiofor


Chiwetel is a British actor. He is one of the most famous celebrities who are of Igbo origin. His is most known for his roles in the movies “High of a yellow sun”, “12 years of slaves”, “The Martian” and “Secret in their eyes”.

2.    Uzo Aduba

Uzo Aduba

Uzoamaka Nwanneka is famous for her role of Suzanne in “Crazy Eyes”. Interesting to know, that she is the only actress who won Emmy Awards in both drama and comedy genres for the same role.

She won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2015, Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2014, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series in 2014 and 2015.

Caroline Chikezie is famous for her role of Sasha Williams in “Footballers’ Wives” and Cberwoman in Torchwood. She is a British actress.

4.    Tinie Tempah

The real name of Tinie Tempah is Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu. He is English singer, rapper, record producer, and songwriter.  He recently worked with Nigerian artists and even had a local shoot with TY Bello, the famous Nigerian photographer. Also previously, Tinie was signed to Parlophone Records since 2009.

5.    Nnamdi Asomugha

Nnamdi Asomugha

Nnamdi Asomugha played football at California University. He is former famous American football cornerback. However, he was drafted in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders.

6.    Ashley Madekwe

Ashley Madekwe

Ashley is English actress, and most people don’t know that she is of Igbo origin. The celebrity is known for her role in the ABC drama series Revenge. He played a social climber Ashley Davenport. She also stares as Tituba in the WGN America series Salem.

7.    Sonni Chidiebere

Sonni Chidiebere

Sonni played in such films as “Hotel Rwanda”, “District 9” and “Blood Diamond” and yes, she is of Igbo origin.

8.    Lemar Obika

   Lemar Obika

Lemar is a very successful English songwriter and singer. Interesting to know,  that he has run of chart success in the Australia, United Kingdom, and Australia.

9.    Osi Umenyioa

  Osi Umenyioa

Osi is a former defensive football player. He has even played in the National Football League. In spite of the fact that he is an American-English player, he is still of Igbo origin.

10.    Nonso Anozie


Nonso worked on television, film and stage. He is an English actor. He played Artus in “Conan the Barbian” in 2011. He was also casted as Xaro Xhoan Daxos for “Game of Thrones”.

He also played a role of Think Tank in the “RocknRolla”   - the film of Guy Ritchie. In 2009, he appeared in the supporting cast of the BBC TV three-part 2003 Iraq War drama.
