“Son of Mercy” EP

He has been working on it for a while, from about last year. Some of the songs were meant to be on his sophomore album, which was supposed to be released last year.

Was it quite a lengthy process? Or did it come together quite quickly?

The recording process wasn’t necessary prolonged or painful. For Davido it was more about the time, effort and other inputs he infused to make sure the sound was right. He is no longer making music just for Africa alone.

God has blessed so much and has been so merciful to Davido within a short period in his career. So he coined the title from his experience from God’s mercies.

Where does the inspiration come from?

He has solid ideas already sometimes. Another time is it an organic process.

He gets his inspiration from a lot of places, experiences, and people around him. So basically it’s a natural process. Regardless of this, though, his music producers also have an influence on this process.

Davido always focuses on his music, only because he wants to be different from what every other artist is doing. All the time, he keeps to his character. He focuses on things that happen in everyday life, and so there are no characters involved.

Sony record deal

It was an enormous amount of work. It's a good look for him as an artist and African music. It gives the leverage to able to break into other music markets internationally. It came at a perfect time considering the fact that Afrobeat is gaining recognition worldwide. Sony music team is very excited to be working with Davido on his project.

Music as a part of life

Growing up, his mother threw lots of parties at home and so he had lots of good music to listen to. Music has been a very integral part of Davido's life growing up. He started making music from about age 13.

He looked up to the likes of Usher Raymond, Dbanj, and Chris Brown. Their music is beyond amazing, and they have excellent talent that intrigues Davido to want to be like them as an artist.

Making history o music

Davido watches out for talented newcomers. As a matter of fact, to support and nurture them musically, he signed a couple of artists to his new record label DMW ( Davido Music Worldwide). He has Dremo, Mayorkun, Danagog, Ichaba and recently Dammy Krane. These guys all look up to Davido as their mentor. Dremo and Mayorkun have top charting songs and are currently making waves in the music industry. Danagog also has been on for a while, and he has some good music out there. The team is currently working on new materials for Ichaba and Dammy Krane. Davido's team is putting in a lot of work to push their career musically.

Davido's political views

He believes the country is going through a lot of reforms at the moment. But he does not indeed think that two years is enough time to fix Nigeria considering all we have being through. All President Buhari needs is a lot of time, dedication and most importantly, support from the people and God willing he will succeed in making Nigeria great again.

Speaking to people

He loves to talk to people through his music on certain subjects that. There are a lot of young people out there that look up to Davido, so he tries his best to use his music to speak to them positively.

Most fans sometimes forget that the artists are humans like other people as well. The backlash doesn’t come off as a surprise; it comes with the fame. People will always criticize you; it happened in the bible as well. So it doesn’t bother Davido, seeing that it is what I signed up for as a public figure.

Some say that music can connect to a person on different levels.

Music for Davido

Music for him is the best therapy ever. It speaks to various individuals in some ways. Music can heal, and it’s the best companion when going through hard times. It all depends on how you interpret the sound and how the lyrics speak to you.

The first record he bought was Michael Jackson’s Thriller album.

He would love to work with DJ Snake, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Simi and a couple of other artistes.

So what’s coming up next for Davido?

His sophomore album is dropping next year. He is also going to be on tour for the greater part of 2017, and he is looking forward to launching his line of branded merchandise.
