It occurs when in the process of chemical contact of ethanol with some specific antibiotics molecules. Consequently, exchange of ethanol changes in the organism.

This intoxication has the following symptoms:

  • Nausea and urge to vomit;
  • Severe headache;
  • Limb spasms;
  • Heart rate acceleration;
  • Facial, neck and chest redness;
  • Heavy breathing.

There are a number of antibiotics that can cause unpleasant symptoms

Note: Never drink alcohol while be treated with such antibiotics!

  • Metronidazole;
  • Ketoconazole;
  • Furazolidone (food poisoning);
  • Chloramphenicol (urinary tract infections, bile ducts);
  • Co-trimoxazole (infections of the respiratory tract, kidneys and urethras, prostate);
  • Tsefotetan (bacterial infections of respiratory and upper respiratory tract, kidney, urinary tract, etc.);
  • Tinidazole (stomach ulcers);
  • Ceftazidime (pneumonia, bacterial diseases of the genitourinary system);
  • Moxalactam (various severe conditions, including fever, if there is a suspicion of a bacterial infection).


You also must not drink alcohol with amoxicillin and while taking prednisone.


While being treated with other antibiotics, a person can drink some hard liquor. However, doctors strongly recommend complying with the measure.
