Nevertheless, Great Britain took over the control of the country. It provided few centuries until 1957 when Ghana proclaimed it`s independence.
Administrative divisions of Ghana

It`s an administrative region that is located in the middle belt of Ghana. It`s one of the central regions of Ghana. According to the map, this region lies between latitudes 5.5N and 7.46, longitudes 0.15W and 2.25W. This region currently shares borders with four other administrative regions of Ghana. These regions are the Western region in the South West, Central region in the South, Eastern region in the East and Brong-Ahafo region in the North. The bulk of people for this region are Ashanti people. It can be called one of the largest ethnic groups in Ghana. Ashanti region can be called the largest gold-mining industry region in the whole Ghana.
Economically active population in this region is mostly engaged in Agricultural sector of economics. Around 45 percent of inhabitants are employed in this branch of activity. Other parts of the population are engaged into retail and wholesale spheres of economics. The percent of people engaged in this sector is 18 percent. Around 12 percent of people engaged in manufacturing sector of the economy. Around ten percent of the economically active population is connected with providing social services to the population. The overall percentage of the economically active population of the region is 85 percent. It keeps decreasing since 1984, where the percentage of the economically active population was registered as 95%.
This region of Ghana was created on 4th April 1959. It`s a former part of the Ashanti Region. It currently covers the area around 39 thousand square kilometres. It can be called the second largest region in the country, which occupies around 16,6% of the country`s territory. It currently borders with La Cote D`Ivore to the West, the Eastern region to the south-east, the Volta Region to the East, Western Region in The South, Northern Region to the North and again with the Ashanti region to the south. The overall population of the region is 1,8 million people.
The major occupation for all districts of the region is an Agricultural sector. According to the statistics, around 66,4 percent of the economically active population of the region work in the Agricultural sector. The Central region is the administrative region of Ghana. It`s bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the south, Greater Accra region to the east, Western region to the west, Eastern and Ashanti regions to the north. This region is rich in the natural resources. It can be seen bauxite, Beryl and gold in the Upper Denkyira District. Saltpond district is rich in natural gas and petroleum. Mfantisiman district is rich on kaolin. You can find diamonds in Nwomaso district.
As it was mentioned in previous regions, agriculture can be named the main sector of the economy for Central Region. More than sixty percent of the economically active population is engaged in agricultural sector. Nevertheless, with increasing of urbanisation sectors, it`s quite noticeable that the population is shifting from the agricultural sector to the service sectors. It should also be mentioned that increasing level of Urbanization provides better circumstances for economy of the region. Therefore, the level of education for people slightly increases every year. Apart from the agriculture and services, the significant portion of people in the economic sector is engaged in production and manufacture of transport equipment operations. Therefore, it`s one of the most technically equipped regions in Ghana.
The Eastern region of Ghana occupies the territory of 19 thousand square kilometres. It occupies around 8 percent of the overall territory of Ghana. It can be named the sixth largest region in Ghana state. The total amount of population for the region is 2,1 million people. It represents 11 percent of the overall population for Ghana State. If it`s the sixth largest region in Ghana, if consider the overall population of the country, it`s the third largest region in the country. Most of the population of the region consist of women they took over 51% of the population for the region.
Most of the population of the region is concentrated in the Agricultural sector. According to the recent statistics, around 60 percent of a population of the region engaged in the agricultural sector. Another part of the population is concentrated in the service sector, production sector and manufacturing sector. The region is also rich in natural resources. It can be used as a touristic attraction. It should be taken to the note, that the natural areas and sights of the country are quite various. Therefore, tourists not only from Africa but also from other regions of the planet may come here.
The Greater Accra region is one of the ten administrative regions in Ghana state. It occupies a total land of 3,2 thousand square kilometres. Nevertheless, it`s only 1.4 percent of the overall land territory of Ghana. Still, regarding population, it can be named the second largest region in the country. The overall population of the region is 4 million people. It means around 15% of Ghana`s overall population.
According to the recent statistics for the economic situation of the region, 71 percent of a population of the region is economically active. 85% of the population has constant jobs. Nevertheless, more than ten percent of a population is currently unemployed. According to the economic statistics of the region, around 42 percent of an economically active population is engaged in service occupation. Technical related workers provide something around 11 percent of an economically active population. Around 20 percent of an economically active population is engaged in production sector of economics.
The Greater Accra Region is mostly connected with retail trades for 30 percent and manufacturing process for 17 percent. Around 8 percent of the population of the Greater Accra region is connected with agricultural sector of economics. It should be mentioned that urbanisation level in the region is quite high.
The northern region is one of the ten administrative regions in Ghana state. It`s also the largest region in Ghana by area. The main providers of work for the region are forestry and hunting. The private informal sector occupies around eighty percent of the economically active population. Around 70 percent of the population is currently stationed as self-employed population. For the tourist attraction, it should be mentioned, that the region has The Mole National Park in Damango. This park is serviced by Forest Rangers. Therefore, it can be quite an attraction for green tourist from Europe or other developed countries and regions of the world. Nevertheless, the Northern region has problems with transportation. Therefore, it`s quite difficult to attract tourists to the region with infrastructure problems. Nevertheless, people from other regions of Ghana come to the Northern region of the country for green tourism. Still, it should be mentioned that younger people of the region try to leave it and find better regions.
Upper East region
The Upper East region is one of the ten administrative regions of Ghana. It`s located in the North-East region of the country between latitudes 30N and 110N, longitudes 00 and 10 West. It`s bordered with Togo to the east and Burkina Faso to the east, the west by Sassala and the south by West Mampriusi. The total population of the region is about 1 million people. The Upper East region occupies around 9 thousand square kilometers.
The overall economy of the region is based on agricultural sector. This region produces cattle, cereals, rice and sorghum. This region is also known for the handicrafts and locally produced beer Pito. As it was mentioned earlier, the main occupation of the region is agricultural related work; it includes more than sixty-five percent of the economically active population of the Region. The production and equipment work sector is occupied by 14,5% of workers. The wholes sector of the region economy is occupied by 9,5% of an economically active population. The service work is provided by four percent of population. Upper West region
The Upper West Region is one of the 10 economic regions in Ghana. The region occupies territory around 18 thousand square kilometres. It provides around 13 percent of the overall country territory. This region is bordered by the Upper East Region on the east, the Republic of Burkina Faso on the North, the Northern Region on the South and Cote D`Ivore on the West. The largest city and the capital of the region is Wa.
The majority of a population is concentrated in the agricultural sector of an economy. Around 72 percent of the economically active population is engaged in the agricultural sector. The production and equipment sector of the regions economics is occupied by 12 percent of the economically active population. Sales work is occupied by the five percent of population. Technical related workers occupy four percent of economically active population.
The region is quite rich for crops, like groundnuts, shea butter, rice, okro, corn and millet. This region also produces cattle, goats, sheep and chicken. Nevertheless, quite a bulk of young people leave the region to find better job opportunities in other regions of the country. Therefore, the population of the region starts decreasing.
Volta region is one of the ten administrative regions of Ghana State. The capital of the region is called Ho. This region of Ghana lies to the east of the Volt lake. This area covers more than 20 thousand kilometres. It provides around eight percent of the overall land territory of the region.
According to the recent statistics, around two-third of the economically active population is self-employed. Therefore, the large bulk of the population is concentrated in the agricultural sector of economics. This region produces cattle, pigs, chicken and sheep. Nevertheless, the overall situation in the region is quite drastic. The huge bulk of the young population of the region is unemployed. Therefore, the criminal situation is on the level of disaster. Young people try to find better job opportunities in other regions of the country. Moreover, they might even live Ghana for finding better work opportunities in other countries. Still, the problem exists, and neither government nor local authorities try to change the overall situation in the region.
The Western region is one of the ten administrative regions of Ghana. It occupies approximately 2,4 thousand kilometres. The overall population of the region is around 1 million people. The main bulk of the economically active population is concentrated in the agricultural sector of the region. The overall situation with jobs is the same like in another part of Ghana state. Therefore, It can`t be decided on the local level the changes for the drastic situation with job opportunities in the region.
