who was the first Nigerian to win Olympic medal

4 answers

Since 1954 Nigeria has participated in all the summer Olympic games, but in 1976. The first medal in the Olympics came in 1996 in Atlanta. The name of the medalist was Chioma Ajunwa-Opara and she specialized in the long jump sports. Till this day she is the only person from Nigeria, who won the golden medal at such a high level sports competition. Another golden medal was handed to Nigeria by Enefiok Udo-Obong, but that was not the “pure victory”, as at first it was given to the USA team, which later on was convicted of abusing drugs and stripped of their victory. That event took place in Sydney.
