Who wants a STATE OF EMERGENCY declared in Port Harcourt?
First we already have a state of emergency in everything but name. [b]Section 305 subsection (3) (c) specifies one of the conditions that warrants a state of emergency and the expected actions to follow. It says if there is actual breakdown of public order and public safety in the Federation or any part thereof to such extent as to require extraordinary measures to restore peace and security. Both parts of this subsection are already in place in Rivers State.
the governor of rivers state stands the better position to stop this killing and shooting in PH. he should willingly go out of the seat. he is the major cause of this problem in PH. Even his god father is supporting this by financing those bandits and cultists, millitants.
Omehiha or what they call him did not win the election period and it is too obvious to those of them at abuja but they dont want to accept the truth instead endangering innocent peopls lives in that state. Omehiha`s opponet will never rest untill he goes off the seat and omehiha himself will not like to go off the seat, so both of them will be supporting their various groups to be causing problem till the stongest wins.
Rivers state government/politician is full of cultists. i dont think state the military satnd a better chance of controlling the problem.
The FG should fully come into this matter, innocent people are dieing everyday for the thing they did not cause.
there's no state of emergency yet in Port Harcourt, what we have their is just a military occupation, which is not likely to yield any long-term results. As soon as the military withdraws, the gangs will come back, because some them have the backing of the state government.
There will be no peace in PH until Omehia is removed and a neutral administrator appointed for the State. Security reports have already indicted him as been a major financier of some of the cult factions, but the FG refuses to remove him. Majority of the politicians calling the shots in PH today are affiliated to the cult gangs, until they are prosecuted/ eliminated, there can never be peace in PH>
Frankly, I believe the state of emergency is the best thing that happened in PH in recent times.
Why? When criminals have taken over the place, there are more kidnappers in PH than refineries and the politicians seem to have their dirty hands tied behind their backs.
Now that the Army has moved in and killed a few of the militants, some of their leaders are now suing for peace and begging for amnesty.
Atimes the only language we recognise in this country is force. The Niger-Delta freedom fighters have lost focus and have now metarmorphosized into anarchist preying on anybody for money even their own people. 'bout time someone taught them some lesson.
After the cleansing of the many rotten eggs totting guns including the politicians that secretly support them, then we can get back to the negotiating table.
I repeat the state of emergency could not have been better timed!
The truth remains that Port Harcourt is a very risky place to live in. The "onyibos" that used to be a regular sight in the city has vanished. The cult thing is no longer a "secret cult" but rather "open cult". These guys are every where in the town and almost everybody can identify them. I think what we need is more of prayers than open confrontation nor curfew. I see the curfew doing very little to curb this problem. God will help us.
Fellow nairalanders, I am getting disgusted about living in Port Harcourt.
I wasn't in town when the curfew was imposed in Port Harcourt. When I came back I arrived about 6pm with the thinking that I will at least get to my house before the curview begins at 7pm. To my greatest supprise, at about 6pm no taxi agreed to carry me any longer, no bike could even be sighted any longer not to talk about picking someone.
I had to start trekking with hundreds of others going my direction. On getting to checkpoints (about 3) before I finnally got home, I had to carry my 2 hands up for a distance of about 50 meters in a line with others. Soldiers with Intimidating faces stood by wacthing us with guns. Nobody was there to help me with my luggage. What kind of city is this.
I'm thinking of relocating to Warri. May be one will be safer there.
E GO BETA, no mata what, the fite wey happen for Warfi some years ago wey i still dey there, mem, e b like say this world wan end that time BUT @ d end everytin kom down, e still dey b like that sometimes i did not support State of Emergency, but i believe the Youths/Cultist/Militants canot not just wake up 1 morning nd decided to DISTURB the pice of PH, e get 1 animal wey them say e no dey run for daytime, its either sometin dey pursue am or e dey pursue sometin, na them kno de reasin why dem dey fite, nd pipo still dey wey dey sponsor this fite, Na only GOD go fit stop am, State of Emergency no go do ntin, if care is not taking them go extend am kom abuja, so that dem go dey still dey clamour for state of emergency, mke them leave mata for matyrs, GOD go do im work
With the de present situwayion in ph,
very things seem ok, but de problem
that we ve now is de extension of de
for me i wil support state-of-emergency
b/c de people that are doing this thing
ve not been apprehend. so de possibility
of them coming back is there, but with state of
emergency they cnt.
And there wil be no curfew people wil go about
for there versus buz.
I think whats going on in Port Harcourt is terrible. I have a close friend that lives in Port Harcourt, and I do worry about him alot, tho we keep in touch everday,
By whatever means it takes for the people of the city to be safer, I would like to see the Government take charge and handle it, but when he told me today, that some guys were forced to take their clothes off at 'certain points' before proceeding, i think is humiliating and not necessary. I was hoping the recent problems in Port Harcourt could draw foreign attention, for proper help to be negotiated and put in place,
Im just worried about innocent people, and those who have already lost their lives, I pray for safety and the best possible outcome on behalf of the families.,, and my dear friend ,
What exactly is a "state of emergency"? Hasn't this been declared by the
cultists and criminal gangs weeks ago? Is it a "state of normalcy" when the
army is patrolling a major urban city in tanks and firing gunships from helicopters and
I know our roads are horrible but we use them anyway because that's all there is,
but I didn't know a situation where people are being randomly kidnapped daily and
cultists are firing AK/47 at heavily populated areas and engaging in gun battles with
each other, police, and the militarily could remotely be called normal?
Why do we prefer to tell ourselves lies?
Of course he was civilian and civil in his agitation and approach which eventually cause him to be annihilated in no time. And MEnD, conscious of this arent threading the same way he did. But unfortunately the Nigerian state seem to hid more to anything that has some little forced in it. So suit them.
But don't get me wrong; am not supporting anything violence in any form and i think the plight of this people should be looked into, for crying out loud.
I know the situation in PH is bad, I dont support state of emergency.
BUT WETIN CONCERN DELTA MAN FOR RIVERS STATE AFFAIR, WHEN WARRI DEY BOIL THIS DELTA YOUTH
NO ASK FOR STATE OF EMERGENCY.
NA ALL THIS PEOPLE WEY DEY USE TO ABACHA STYLE GO DEY ASK FOR STATE OF EMERGENCY.
This is civilian in power and not GENERAL in politics.
