He noted that the commitment to accountability and transparency of the government was serving the authorities in good stead, as he moved the people's attention from the acute shortage of resources in the country. He said that it was an extremely difficult year for whole Nigeria. Before the Buhari government came to office, petroleum price was about $100 per one barrel. But then it flew to $37, and now the cost is $40-45 per one barrel. Suddenly Nigeria became a poor country and it seems that government understands everything, butdoes nothing.

As he requested UNFPA to endure Nigeria in whichever region of the country cannot meet its obligations on this point, President Muhammadu Buhari said that the increase in population and a variety of cultural practices in the country created a fertile ground for research in organizations such as UNFPA. The President Buhari thanked the United Nations agency for its commitment to the preservation of life in Nigeria, especially children and women.
