is gambling a sin

For some people gambling became a part of their life and they don’t find it bad anymore. But a lot of other people argue: is gambling a sin?

Is gambling sin in Christianity

There is no bible verse that states that gambling is a sin. But as we know, the book that was written two thousand years ago couldn’t have possibly stated something like that.

However, the Holy Book of Christianity says a lot about money.

First of all, if you are addicted to money, you will surely become a sinner. Money addiction is as bad as having problems with alcohol and drugs. Bible also warns us that we shouldn’t be willing to reach success and money.

It will come only if we have really good purposes.

When you focus on your family and try to be a better person, you will always be happier than if you gamble and waste money.

What are the reasons that make gambling one of the most dangerous sins though?

Even though it can’t be fully considered as an evil act as long as other people are not affected, there is still a lot of danger that you put yourself in.

If we think about it from a point of view of a modern person, we might not see all truth. You can compare gambling with other kinds of entertainment where you also pay money to have fun.

However, it is different as, for example, going to the cinema once doesn’t normally make you want to go there again and again to spend all money that you have on the same film.

The difference is also that if you can get at least something good by doing this kind of stuff, it can’t be painful.

If you go to the movies with your kids, all family will be happy. On the other side, gambling will make your family members nervous as they never know if you are going to win or lose.

The Bible actually says that you should spend money only on things that you really need.

The only reason why Bible doesn’t say if gambling is a sin is that there were no casinos back then.

Speaking of casinos, it’s a place where you’d better never go to. The owners are usually the people who get so much money that they feel like they can’t lose anymore. They want more and more and nothing can stop them.

Casinos look very attractive as the workers will try to please you. They would offer you drinks because it is always easier to make bad decisions when you are drunk.

Casinos earn a huge amount of money every night and a lot of people lose all they have as fast as lightning.

Most of the people who attend casinos and take part in lotteries have serious problems with money. Being desperate, they are hoping to get enough money to pay their bills and debts.

And as soon as they get used to playing, the adrenaline rush makes it impossible to stop. You should realize that it’s a risk that is not worth taking.

Gambling sin bible verses

Ecclesiastes 5:10 He that loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loves abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

Is gambling sin in Islam?

The Muslims take gambling very serious. They don’t tend to think about it as an acceptable way of entertainment. Their Holy Book warns to stay out of love for money and compares it with the destructive power of alcohol.

“They ask you [Muhammad] concerning wine and gambling. Say: ‘In them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit.’… Thus does Allah Make clear to you His Signs, in order that you may consider” (Quran 2:219).

“O you who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, dedication of stones, and divination by arrows, are an abomination of Satan's handwork.  Eschew such abomination, that you may prosper” (Quran 5:90).

“Satan's plan is to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah, and from prayer.  Will you not then abstain?” (Quran 5:91).

To sum up, if you ever get in the situation where you are stuck with gamblers in a casino – remember the Bible or Quran verse that warn you not to put your family and yourself in danger just for money.
