Ramadan is a month of spiritual purification

Ramadan is a month of spiritual purification, which is celebrated by Muslims all over the world. During this month at daylight hours Muslims abstain from food and water, smoking and entering into an intimate relationship. Children, the sick people, the elderly, travelers, pregnant women and nursing mothers may not obey these strict rules.

In 2016, for the first time in thirty-four years Ramadan time was almost divided in half day by the summer solstice. This means that in the northern hemisphere hours of fasting were the longest in three decades.

Bloody events

In 2016, Ramadan ended on 6 July. Unfortunately, this year this holy month has become the bloodiest one in history. For a month period the whole world was shocked by hundreds of blood-spattered and violent attacks. As a result, hundreds of Muslims were killed.

The first bloody attack took place on June 12, 2016. An American citizen of Afghan origin, having pledged faithfulness to ISIS, arranged a mass shooting.

The policeman’s wife was also killed. Fortunately, their child survived. The murderer was a 25-year-old Frenchman Larossi Abala. He was an active member of ISIS terrorist organization.

On July 3, there was the hugest and the most terrible attack in a decade. It happened in Baghdad, the capital of the Republic of Iraqi. There were two powerful explosions. At the moment, the number of victims is over 285 people.

The explosion occurred in two overcrowded places: a restaurant in the central Karada district and near the market in the northern region of Al-Shaab. Terrorist attack happened in the midst of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, when the faithful people were engaged in purchasing presents. “Islamic State” terrorist group took responsibility for the explosion.

What in Nigeria?

Since 2002, Boko Haram, a radical Islamist organization, has been operating in Nigeria. Mohammed Yusuf was its first person in charge. The foremost goal of this organization is to introduce Sharia in the whole territory of Nigeria. It also calls for the abolition of the Western lifestyle in the country.

Boko Haram

In July, 2009, Boko Haram started riots in northern Nigeria. They conducted violent attacks on police stations and many Christian churches. In June, 2014, the UN Security Council put Boko Haram to the global terrorist organization list.

This Nigerian terrorist organization pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in 2015. Since that time its name has been changed to the Islamic State's West Africa Province.

Many experts point out that Ramadan 2016 was one of the bloodiest in history, once again confirming the truism: ISIS has nothing to do with Islam and traditional Muslim values.
