UEFA threatened to kick Russia and England out of the European Championship finals on Sunday.  The reason is  fan violence.

At the same time, French authorities informed that had detained 63 people linked to violence from the beginning of Euro 2016.

What actually happened?

Tensions between fans of the two countries came to head inside the Stade Velodrome after Saturday's 1-1 England-Russia draw. Thirty-five people were injured in the worst violence at an international tournament, with three of them are still in a serious condition.

With more high-risk matches looming, the UEFA executive committee expressed "disgust" at the clashes.

European football's governing body UEFA issued the warning as German hooligans became the latest to join street battles that have marred the tournament, following three days of clashes in Marseille between Russian and English fans.

UEFA has laid sanctions against Russia, accusing their fans of crowd disturbances, racist behaviour and throwing fireworks and missiles in the Marseille stadium. The decision about charges  will be announced on Tuesday(14 June)

What should be done?

The European body did say that security has to be improved. The French government gave police the rights to ban alcohol sales and consumption. Also, the interior ministry said Sunday that 116 people were questioned in relation to violence since the start of the tournament, of which 63 were taken into custody.

Interesting to know that during past weeks, five of seven hooligan-related searches have been about Euro 2016. People mostly search for Marseille, Russia, England and Ultras in relation to hooliganism. These searches were most popular in France.
